New Era for Ladies starts with Win!

Women’s Surrey Trust League
Stoke Molesey Ladies CC 107 for 5 (15 overs)
Oxted & Limpsfield 86 for 2 (15 overs)
Stoke Molesey Ladies won by 21 runs

The first match of the new Stoke & East Molesey Ladies section, (SDCC and EMCC Ladies), began with a win over Oxted & Limpsfield in the Surrey Trust League.

In front of a big crowd, including a number of senior players from the men’s section to cheer them on after their own net practice, Stoke Molesey racked up 115 for the loss of just 5 wickets in their allotted 15 overs. The cornerstone of the innings was Amy Page who hit a quick 50 not out from 32 balls before retiring to give others an opportunity.

Caitlin Whiteley hit 14 and the total was boosted by 39 extras; although 2 runs for a wide, (and no extra ball until the final over), always makes the bowling look more erratic than it actually is.

In reply, Megan Kapadia and Charlotte Elworthy took a wicket each, one of them a catch at the wicket by Alex Travers who kept tidily – the fielding was committed and in a first match for some it was pleasing that a number of the basics in the field were superior than their opponents, which really helped contribute to the win – in particular the backing up was excellent preventing overthrows. This meant that the visitors were restricted to just 50 runs off the bat from 15 overs – fewer wides were bowled as well.

Further comment will appear later, but congratulations to both sides on a well spirited match, overseen by Stoke D’Abernon CC Chairman Drew Patrick who also umpired for the hosts. The sides meet again next week in Oxted.
