Former Stoke opponent named Pakistan Team Manager

In September 1972, as part of Mickey Stewart’s benefit year, a Surrey CCC side came to HQ to play against a Stoke XI.

Within their ranks was one Intikhab Alam, who has now been appointed Pakistan Team Manager.

This appointment is, of course, in the wake of the unfounded match-fixing allegations made by his predecessor, Ijaz Butt. When the first spot-fixing allegations first appeared in the News of the World the man filmed and photographed was an indivudual by the name of Mazhar Majeed.

It has also been confirmed recently by our sources that this is the same Mazhar Majeed who currently plays for Wallington CC. Stoke and Wallington have faced each other a number of times over the years in the Fuller’s League and the Surrey Championship, most recently in 2009, although Majeed has never been in their side when we have played them. We would like to make it clear that despite these ‘connections’ Stoke have a clean bill of health!
