Fixtures and Ground Update

Club Message…

We are sorry to inform you that we will not be able to use the club this weekend, (11th & 12th September.) The broken water main will not be repaired until the following weekend at the earliest, and we do not have access on Saturday to the brownie hut for toilets and water supplies.

This means that the match with Sheen Park has been cancelled and with only seven players available at this point we cannot run the risk of arranging a match, then having to cancel due to lack of numbers.

This is a pain for all, but sadly we don’t have a choice. Drew Patrick, SDCC Chairman, met with the contractor yesterday and the repair will be a big job, requiring the use of a digger to find a stopcock and pipes which are buried somewhere below the rubbish and nettles behind the clubhouse.

It is also very probable that we will have to lay a new pipe from the main road to the clubhouse and it is possible that the contractor will have to do some work inside the beer cellar. The current plan is to complete the work during the weekend of the 18th and 19th.

We will keep you posted as events unfold, but must, therefore, also warn you that the weekend of the 18th and 19th is also at risk.

It is unlikely we will have a match on Saturday 18th as only two players have made themselves available to date. There is better availability for Saturday 25th, so if anyone fancies one last hurrah, please e-mail ralph.coleman@landg.com to let him know if you can play. If we have numbers we will try and get an away fixture. (We have to play away due to issues with our lease!)

As for Sunday cricket, Steve Finch was successful in raising a side to travel to Dorking this Sunday, (12th), only to find the opposition had arranged a stag weekend and forgot to inform us! We have advertised for a replacement away fixture and Ewhurst CC have kindly agreed to play us at their ground. The clubs used to play a friendly at each end of the season but the fixture dropped off the card when both were in the Fuller’s League in the mid-1990s. Ewhurst are one of two sides to have played us in the month of October, (http://sdacc.play-cricket.com/content/view.asp?id=10266642&cid=200), and messers Finch and Johns were there…as they will be in 2010!

As for the last scheduled Sunday match against Claygate on the 19th, if the ground issue continues we will gauge availability and seek an away fixture, and possibly an away fixture for Sunday 26th, if we have numbers.

Thank you for your understanding.
