Sunday XI collapse to defeat against the Magpies

Stoke D’Abernon Sunday XI 105 all out (36.2 overs)

Magpies 110 for 6 (27.5 overs)

Magpies won by four wickets

Stoke’s Sunday XI entertained a Magpies XI that contained five former Stoke players, and one current one in the form of 2nd XI stalwart Malcolm Dickson.

Having chosen to bat, Stoke openers Rick Mustill and Adam Cooke posted an opening stand of 55, and the home side looked set for a competitive score when Mustill completed an even half century with nine fours and a six, then No.4 Chris Finch added 22 more.

However a collapse of epic proportions led to Stoke being dismissed for just 105, Obery taking three wickets for 25 and Dutta of West End Esher CC and former Stoke Player of the Year James Haddow each returning figures of 2 for 1. There were four catches at the wicket for Turner.

Stoke made a great fist of it after tea, however. Dom Lloyd castled Dickson for just 6, then the dangerous Dutta was sent back to the pavilion courtesy of a catch by Roy Johns off the same bowler who returned figures of 6-0-27-2.

Stoke’s all-time leading wicket-taker Johns, (8-1-34-3), added three more to his tally with the wickets of Macarty, Turner and Canham. Adam Cooke effected a run out to give Stoke a brief glimpse of the improbable, but Obery and Carlino completed the run chase in just the 28th over.

Next week, Stoke host Ashtead at the Rec.
