June Newsletter

Chairman Drew Patrick writes:

Dear Members

Our season to date is a case of ‘so far so good.’ After 7 matches in the Surrey Championship, our 1ss and 2s are top of their respective tables in Division 5, but there is still a long way to go, with 11 matches to be played by each team between 27th June and 4th September.

Our colts continue to do extraordinarily well at every level. The best current measure of their success is the number of teams who are still involved in cup competitions. Our new home square is certainly being tested to the full – we are currently playing 7 matches every week at the Rec! My thanks go to all the parents and volunteers who are managing to co-ordinate teams, matches and teas for every age group.

There are two news items:

1.     Waitrose

SDCC has been selected by Waitrose in Cobham for the July ‘Community Matters’ fundraiser. The money which we raise will go towards the cost of installing the new synthetic wicket for our colts at the Rec.  I know that many of you already shop in Waitrose and will be familiar with the process of being given a green token when paying your bill. For the whole of July, you will be able to place your token in the SDCC box near the store exit. SDCC will be one of 3 local organisations competing for tokens, with £1,000 being divided at the end of the month between the 3. The more tokens we collect, the greater our share of the pot, so please think of SDCC when you shop in the Cobham branch of Waitrose!

2.     JLT Wealth Management

We are very fortunate to have JLT as our lead sponsor in 2010. In addition to making a contribution of £3,500 to club funds, they have also spent a substantial sum of money on the supply of free shirts for every playing member. We know that quite a few SDCC members are clients of JLT and we have therefore agreed to circulate JLT’s quarterly newsletter by e-mail to all members, with the important proviso that each member will be given the option to be removed from the circulation list if they do not want to receive future newsletters.

3.     Colts Fundraiser Evening

Don’t forget the Colts evening on Friday 9th July. It will be a great opportunity for everyone to have some fun and to raise some money towards the cost of the synthetic wicket.

Thank you for your support.

With best wishes

Drew
