Surrey Trust League Player of the Season

After the team photo was taken on Sunday there was an additional presentation made to Will Gudgeon who was chosen as our Surrey Trust League Player of the Year for the 2009 season.

The winners from each club are presented with a signed bat kindly donated by Surrey CCC, and a Surrey Pro usually does the honours on Finals Day. Sadly Will was unable to attend last year so he received his signed bat from Ralphie, (not a Surrey Pro), after Sunday’s match.

It’s hoped that the Pro is someone who came through the Surrey ranks, ideally someone who has graduated from the STL, but with the STL still in its infancy these players are few and far between – Tom Lancefield, (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/content/player/358597.html), is one who has made the journey – Stoke faced him when he played for Banstead in 2007,(http://sdacc.play-cricket.com/scoreboard/scorecard.asp?id=10312174); so ‘Plan B’ is for one of the younger Pro players to do the presentation.

In keeping with the sort of year Surrey CCC had, when looking at their squad and considering the most suitable candidate to fit the above criteria, they concluded that the 2009 bats would be signed by none other than…ANDRE NEL. (http://www.cricinfo.com/ci/content/player/46569.html)

We leave you to work that one out!!!

Congratulations, Will, on your deserved award, and your addition to the roll of honour below…

The next Surrey Trust League match is at home to Spencer this coming Sunday, 1.30pm start. Please make every effort to come down and support the next generation of Stoke 1st XI players. The bar will be open and the cricket must surely be a more attractive proposition than the World Cup!!!
