Weekend Round Up

Match Reports for the Surrey Championship matches appear elsewhere on this site, (as does Tim Dyer’s account of the Under 17s Cup win),  but the club has enjoyed success at other levels over the weekend…

Under 9s

Johnny Lawes writes : “…In the Horsley & Send Under 9 Tournament played on Monday 31st May the boys did fantastically well in winning the plate final, (beating the winners of the main competition, Teddington, in the group stages.) They played 5 games throughout the day and I can’t name a man of the tournament as they all played well and each contributing with bat and ball. It was a long day but great fun and boys were a credit to the club.”

Under 13s

The Under 13s registered a 2-wicket win over Maori Oxshott, surely a good omen for the weekend’s Surrey Championship double header!!!

Women’s XI

The women played two matches in the Southern League Super 8s cup, bowling Guildford out for 66 and knocking the runs off in juts 4.5 overs without loss. Later in the day thery slipped to defeat against Twickenham.

Sunday XI

The Sunday XI fell to defeat against Wisley Southside, who included Stoke Vice President Malcolm Dickson, 1997 Stoke Player of the Year James Haddow and Stoke colts’ products Luke Simon and Alex Fletcher in their side.

Stoke batted first. Rick Mustill hit an unbeaten 73, and backed up by 40 not out from Chris Finch a declaration after 45 overs was possible on 175 for 5. In reply; Dickson hit 71 and shared in an opening stand of 107 with Mark Rosine to set up victory by three wickets despite a career best 6 for 42 from Alex Bond.

Monday 31st May – Additional Senior Fixture

A Stoke XI travelled to Leatherhead on Monday as cousins Ian Hopton, (SDCC), and David Bonnellie, (Leatherhead’s Overseas Player for 2010), went head to head. Bonnellie hit 50, helping the hosts up to 204 for 9; Hopton took 3-29, (beaten to the match’s best bowling figures by Richie Parrett who took 3-19.)

In reply Jack Raimondo, (37) and Rob Lane, (33), set up the run chase, but a middle order collapse necessitated a rearguard action. Stoke managed to hold out for the draw with the last pair at the wicket.
